Hello and welcome. My name is Roxann. I am a student of the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center, otherwise known as MARC. I have been with this group for a few years, although my deeper involvement began in November 2017. Through the MAPs (Mindful Awareness Practices) classes, I have gained tremendous insight into myself, other beings, the human condition, and the crucial element of connection that, in my opinion, gives life meaning. I am an avid notetaker, and in the interest of spreading these incredibly important teachings, I am revisiting and sharing some of these notes on this online platform. Please note that this site is not meant to replace the experience of taking these classes. I greatly encourage interested students to enroll in MARC programs such as MAPs classes (the online classes are a great option if you are not in the Los Angeles area), or even listen to their free guided meditations if you are at all intrigued by mindfulness in a secular setting. I began with five minutes per day, and it has truly transformed my life. It is my greatest hope that I may spread this practice and philosophy far and wide, so that I may bring to others the profound benefits that mindfulness has brought to me. Our society is in grave danger of succumbing to over-information, over-stimulation, over-working and under-awareness. Let us be agents of change in this process. Let us foster awareness, embrace the present moment, and emanate connection, both within ourselves and between us and the world around us. May all beings everywhere know love, light, and connectedness.
